Spirits of the Red City
Hello all, Rigamarole here. I guess this is my first blog post. Cool.
Anyways, you're in for a treat tonight. At the Rising Tide, we're working on not only bringing you the best new music from Santa Cruz, but also great music that passes through our lovely little city.
Last weekend I caught a great performance by Minneapolis folk band, Spirits of the Red City, at Subrosa, with local acts, Pet Dander, which is our live guest tonight, as well as Madrona and Hermit Convention. They managed to pack 8 members, a cello, mandolin, guitars, drum set, viola, banjo, accordion, upright bass and a bunch of fans, or soon-to-be fans into the room, and made it seem like a huge, echoing space.
I caught up with the band the next night, before a fantastic show at Sunny Cove Beach, where they played right on the sand, along with another great band from Austin, Some Say Leland. You can hear the interview on the Rising Tide tonight, at 9 p.m.! Check out their Myspace, and if you can, see them tomorrow at Anno Domini art gallery in San Jose.

Things to come
Hey all,
It's been a weird couple of weeks. Friends come, friends go, oil spills get progressively worse, the usual kinds of things.
I'm actually going to be taking a brief respite from KZSC this week (and will most likely end up at the Crepe Place this Friday night to support NO JET LEFT as they open for Gram Rabbit). That being said, make sure to tune in Friday at 8:30 to hear DJ Rigmarole spine brand new indie rock, some lo-fi classics and interview Santa Cruz's very own SUNNY AFTERNOON.

GET READY 2 RAVVVVEEE

We're back with a vengeance, folks! Last week's impromptu interview with DONE BEGINNER was pretty ace (kudos to Kris, Mark and Rick for making it to the studio), but this week we bring back the live performance aspect of the show... WITH A VENGEANCE.

The Halibut of Vengeance ENDS ALLLLLLLLL
That being said, it's my pleasure to introduce you all to one of Santa Cruz's hottest new acts, and this week's guests on The Rising Tide: NURSERY.
Not pictured: fish fueled by vengeance.
This electro-dance two-piece is comprised of composer Frank Wong and singer Emma Jean and has been tearing up a storm around town recently, playing to both captivated house shows as well as an impressive late-day performance at May's SCUMFest. The electrifying duo will be making their Crepe Place debut on September 22nd (opening for electro-folk balladeer Casiotone for the Painfully Alone), and will appear on The Rising Tide this Friday night, July 9th, at 8:30 to perform some of their electro bangers and talk about the trials and tribulations of being an upcoming electronic dance act in a town not necessarily known for churning them out like other metropolitan cities.
It'll be like this but with a lot less people... and you having to listen to it on the radio and such.
Tune in live at KZSC.org to hear the entire interview/performance! This shit is going to be awesome.
